In this month of May, I hiked a lot with my clients in Mediterranean landscapes in the middle of the cistus of Montpellier. Some cistus are dotted with a white foam. It is in fact a small cozy cocoon called “cuckoo spit” but which has nothing to do with the cuckoo. In fact, it is a small insect, the frothy leafhopper, which secretes this moss to protect its larva from predators and drought.
