The road that leads to Rimont (Ariège) already offers a glimpse of what awaits us for this ride: hills, old stones and some pastures in the middle of a beautiful forest. The impression is confirmed throughout the ride that began around 10:30. Everything begins with a small road embracing the Combelongue Abbey which will meet again in the afternoon. After half an hour, we leave the tar under the jaded eye of some cows for a track that climbs quite steep in a pleasant forest but hiding the landscape. Arrived at the pass, the forest opens to let us glimpse the surrounding hills and we see some mushrooms making the delight of one of our walking companions. The table foreseen host our picnic is unfortunately broken, and we have lunch on the grass at the edge of the road under an oak tree. A last effort takes us to the summit of our small perimeter (the Roc de Castillon 971 meters) before descending to the abbey. We followed the visit made by the owner of the place who introduced us it an episode of French history and shared his passion for the gardens that he maintains with an obvious love. It is almost regretfully that we separate after a soothing day rich in discoveries.
